The Final Week!

This week we made another trip to Alicante.  We met up with Kara and John at the La Taberna del Gourmet.  Kara is sister to one of my basketball chums in Phoenix, Arizona, Paul.  When we were planning our trip to Spain, Paul told me his sister had moved to Alicante!  So for the past 11 or so months, I have been emailing with Kara about the location etc. We were finally able to meet up in person for the first time on Saturday (October 22).  We had an awesome lunch and it was a wonderful visit with Kara and John!

We had gone into Alicante a bit before our lunch date, Munchie was on a mission to visit a particular shop that she has always liked, Desigaul.  This is a fashion store founded in Barcelona Spain in 1984.  Her first experience with the store was in 2006 in Barcelona!  She also found one in Scotland and most recently, the West Edmonton Mall in Alberta, Canada!

While the girls were checking out Desigaul and other shops, Dave and I also did some "scouting".  We found and Irish Pub and Dave was able to enjoy a Guiness!

Our walk to the La Taberna took us through a quaint street we called the Mushroom Street (Calle de Las Setas).  It was lined with numerous shops and eateries!

On our return walk along the Calle de Las Setas we stopped at a fantastic pastry shop recommended by Kara and John, the "Salt in Cake".  We had brownies for an eat now treat and brought home some cinnamon buns for later!  (Munchie says Shannon T's are far better and Dan M's monkey bread!)

October 23 was Dave and Pat's anniversary!  We went to the Bar Quesada for a great celebration meal.  We had the paella to start, a Quesada speciality, and it did not disappoint!  We all had a fish, Pat the sea bass, Munchie the swordfish, Dave the dorada and me, the pescadilla.  All locally caught fish.  The girls tried the sangria and Dave and I sampled the cerveza!  And keeping the the theme of the evening of celebrating, Pat gave Dave a piece of tail!

We took a trip to see a waterfall, the Fuentes Del Algar.  It was just over an hour's drive and was well worth the trip.  The year round average water temperature of the water there is about 18c (64f).  Even so there were a lot of brave souls who were in the water!

We stopped for a refreshment before we left.  Pat and I had freshly made smoothies, Dave and Brenda had Radlers!

There was a papaya tree right beside us and Pat, being a fruit klepto, couldn't resist!  Although you can see from the photographic evidence, her look out man missed the worker walking up to make the arrest!

Our last few days we spent close to home.  Had some more beach days and enjoyed the Bar Quesada one last time.
Dave and Pat headed home on Sunday, Oct 30.  Munchie and I left October 31 and spent the night in Amsterdam.  We are just getting set for our final leg.

All in all, we had a fantastic time!  Cheers to all until my next blogg!
